Over the weekend of June 13–14, the U14 team participated in the Sheffield Ice Hockey Academy Tournament in Sheffield, UK. The Dutch Flyers competed for the title in the stronger A-pool against five English teams.

In the opening match against Swindon, we got off to a flying start with over 20 shots, but unfortunately, we were repeatedly thwarted by their outstanding goalkeeper, leaving the score at 0–0 after 27 minutes of play. We subsequently won the matches against Lanarkshire, Sheffield, Deeside, and Slough—with scores of 6–1, 2–0, 4–0, and 2–1—thanks to hard work and good teamwork.

De laatste westrijd tegen Slough was spannend en het was duidelijk dat deze 2 teams als eerste twee in de poule zouden eindigen en elkaar in de finale wederom zouden treffen. De finale zondagmiddag was uitermate spannend en na 30 minuten was de stand 1-1 wat betekende dat er 5 minuten 3 tegen 3 overtime gespeeld moest worden. Na een paar spannende shifts met een fantastische redding van de onze goalie waren het uiteindelijk toch de Dutch Flyers die de beslissende goal scoorden! Na een precies en laaggeplaatst schot direct na de face off was het aan de Flyers om feest te vieren!!

After the match, there was a pleasant group dinner while watching the Dutch national team play, bringing a fantastic weekend to a close!

Last weekend, the Dutch Flyers participated in the international ice hockey tournament in Antwerp, organized by the Antwerp Phantoms. In the U11 category, 10 teams competed for the prizes, while in the U13 category, there were 8.

Strong position
The Dutch Flyers started the tournament convincingly. They won five of the six matches in the group stage. The team only had to admit defeat against the host team, the Phantoms. With that, the Flyers finished the first day in an impressive second place, behind the combined team IJshockey Bats.ext time.

Last weekend, the Dutch Flyers participated in the international ice hockey tournament in The basis for this result lay in consistent play and full commitment until the very last second. What stood out most was the strong teamwork: chances were not only created but also granted. Many goals came from good assists following well-executed offensive build-ups. Off the ice, the team also grew closer together. During moments at the hotel, during breaks, and at shared lunches, new friendships were formed that visibly influenced their play on the ice.

Decisive match on day 2
Op de tweede dag stond nog één poulewedstrijd op het programma: de directe confrontatie met de Bats. In deze strijd tussen de nummers 1 en 2 koos coach Jasper Jaspers voor een tactiek met nadruk op solide verdediging en snelle uitbraken vanuit de achterste linie. Het werd een spannende en gelijkopgaande wedstrijd, waarin de Flyers uiteindelijk wonnen. Daarmee eindigden zij als eerste in de poule.

Final rounds and disappointment
In the cross-finals, the first match against the number 8 team was won convincingly. In the semi-final, the Flyers faced the Amsterdam Tigers again. While the Flyers had won 4-3 the day before after an intense duel, things turned out differently this time. Despite an adjusted line formation and hard work, Amsterdam proved more effective and won 1-0.

The disappointment among the players was great. At the same time, it was wonderful to see how players from other teams showed their support. That underscores the power of ice hockey: fierce in the game, respectful off it.

Battle for 3rd place
In the match for third and fourth place against Tilburg Trappers, fatigue seemed to take its toll. The short but intense 15-minute game was lost, causing the Dutch Flyers to finish in fourth place.

Pride and looking ahead
Although it was difficult to accept this result after finishing first in the group, pride prevails. The team displayed strong, consistent, and sporting play. The core values ​​of the Dutch Flyers came clearly to the fore: winning with humility and losing with pride.

Op naar de volgende uitdaging. Volgende keer betere kansen!

🏒 Dutch Flyers U16 naar Cuper toernooi in Zweden

Van 17 t/m 19 april 2026 nemen de spelers van Dutch Flyers U16 deel aan het internationale Cuper toernooi in Zweden. Tijdens dit jeugdtoernooi komen teams uit verschillende landen samen voor een sterk bezet weekend vol ijshockey.

Voor de Dutch Flyers is dit een mooie kans om internationale ervaring op te doen, zich te meten met sterke tegenstanders en als team verder te groeien.

Dutch Flyers U14 naar internationaal toernooi in Sheffield

Op 13 en 14 juni 2026 reist een U14-team van de Dutch Flyers af naar Sheffield voor deelname aan het Sheffield Summer Ice Hockey Tournament. Het toernooi wordt gespeeld in iceSheffield en brengt jeugdteams uit verschillende landen samen voor een weekend vol intens en sportief ijshockey. 🏒

Het evenement wordt georganiseerd door Sheffield Ice Hockey Academy in samenwerking met England Ice Hockey en maakt deel uit van een reeks zomertoernooien voor jeugdteams. Voor spelers is dit een mooie kans om ook buiten het reguliere seizoen wedstrijden op hoog niveau te spelen, internationale ervaring op te doen en nieuwe teams te ontmoeten. 🌍

Dutch Flyers naar Indoor Pond Hockey in Antwerpen

Op 2 en 3 mei 2026 nemen de Dutch Flyers deel aan het internationale Indoor Pond Hockey toernooi van de Antwerp Phantoms in Antwerpen. Dit populaire evenement sluit traditioneel het ijshockeyseizoen af en brengt teams uit verschillende landen samen voor een weekend vol snelle, korte en intensieve wedstrijden.

Pond hockey is de pure, oorspronkelijke vorm van ijshockey: gespeeld op een kleiner veld, in kleine teams en met veel puckcontact. Het speltempo ligt hoog, wissels volgen elkaar snel op en teamwork is essentieel. In deze variant spelen teams 4-tegen-4, wat zorgt voor veel ruimte, snelheid en spectaculaire acties.

De Dutch Flyers worden tijdens dit toernooi vertegenwoordigd door de volgende spelers:

In the weekend of 27 and 28 December 2025, the Seidenstadt Junior U13 tournament took place in Krefeld, Germany. With a delegation from several Dutch teams, 15 field players and 2 goalies of Dutch Flyers competed this weekend. Apart from the Dutch Flyers, 5 German teams participated in the tournament. Hosts KEV (Krefeld); AEG (Augsburg); Füssen (Allgäu); ETC (Crimmitschau) and Löwen (Frankfurt). The level of the German teams is high. 

The tournament
The format was based on points to be earned per period. Each game was divided into two 20-minute periods. Win per period is 2 points, two period wins is an extra point and in case of a tie, shootouts. With no overtime or foul time, so Dutch Flyers had to prove themselves in a short time and give everything.

Without letting themselves be impressed, they started the first match against Augsburg, the champions of the previous edition, with flair. This opening game on Saturday against AEG was lost 14-0. Our goalies Joey (Dordrecht Lions) and Maeve (Hijs Hokij) kept quite a few pucks out of their goal, but the continuous shots at goal was clearly a case of supremacy for them.
The second game against Füssen the players already came into their game a bit better. First period lost 4-0 and the in the second the forwards managed to find the net and ended in 5-3).
The final Saturday match against KEV - the eventual tournament winner - was lost 9-4. All players came into their game better, the defence hampered chances for the opposition and the goalies stood their ground. 
Two more games were scheduled on Sunday. You noticed that the group was forming better as a team. On the ice, but certainly also off it. The night before, the ministicks and indoor goals came out at the hotel for the evening training ;-). Beforehand, we did have a quick pizza together. The next day, during breakfast, you noticed that a stronger group feeling had already developed. Later on, on the track, it was clear that this also had sporting benefits!
The first period against ETC was won 1-0. The group cheered as if it was a tournament win. Defence with the same players as the day before kept their own goal clean thanks to good playing around and passing. Unfortunately, they lost the second period 0-1 again, so shootouts followed. It now mainly came down to the focus of both shooters and goalie. They managed to keep the first few pucks out of the net, but the refined feints of the Germans eventually led to a goal.
The closing game was exciting in the first period, for a while only trailing 1-0 and the equaliser led to 1-1. Both Forwards and Defence were extra on edge, but later in the second half the Löwen scored goal after goal.

The U13 players finished last with 2 points, but rightly proud of the play and effort shown. The planned goals were met: leaving the tournament without the 0; having fun in the game; making international connections and gaining experience.

Dutch Flyers
The Dutch Flyers bring together some of the most talented players from hockey clubs across the Netherlands. The hockey players share a passion for the sport, a good understanding of team play, a genuine desire to play at the highest level. Complemented by a strong will to win.
These players train together, alternating on the court of a different club each time. Matches are played during international tournaments. There they gain experience of competing next-level against foreign teams. Besides experience in the game, getting to know clubs, players and coaches is important. Here, the so-called Values of Principles apply. As soon as you participate on behalf of the Dutch Flyers, you conform to core values such as a sporting attitude towards the opponent, modesty when winning and discipline towards coaches and officials.

Na een zomervakantie vol intensieve trainingen met het nieuwe Dutch Flyers-team (geboortejaren 2012/2013) was het tijd om onze teamvaardigheden te testen tijdens het Phantoms Minitournooi in Antwerpen. We namen het op tegen Antwerpen Phantoms (B), Füchse Duisburg (D) en Beaufort Knights (L).
Voor de eerste wedstrijd namen coaches Paul Vincent en Dax Roelofsen de spelers even apart in een ruimte buiten de kleedkamer. Hier werd gezamenlijk de strategie besproken en de focus gelegd voor de start van het toernooi.
Na het warm rijden kon de openingswedstrijd tegen de Antwerpen Phantoms beginnen.

Het was meteen spannend: onze Flyers speelden met veel inzet en lieten mooi
samenspel zien. Helaas bleek Antwerpen een maatje te groot en eindigde de wedstrijd in een 3–1 overwinning voor de thuisploeg. Na een gezellige en luxe lunch, waarbij iedereen zelf iets mocht kiezen van het buffet in het restaurant, maakten we ons op voor de tweede wedstrijd tegen Beaufort Knights.
Paul en Dax gaven nog een korte peptalk, tekenden enkele tactische aandachtspunten op het coachbord en toen kon de wedstrijd van start. Na een prachtig één-tweetje tussen onze verdediging werd de score geopend. De Flyers speelden overtuigend en sloten deze wedstrijd af met een knappe 6–1 overwinning.
In de derde en laatste poulewedstrijd tegen Füchse Duisburg zagen we de Flyers
opnieuw groeien, zowel in spel als in onderling vertrouwen. Dankzij hard werken en sterk teamspel werd ook deze wedstrijd gewonnen, met 1–0. Daarmee plaatsten we ons voor de finale tegen Antwerpen Phantoms.
Tijdens de voorbereiding op de finale hield coach Paul Vincent een inspirerende
speech: “In deze wedstrijden hebben jullie geleerd te luisteren, samen te werken en succes te behalen als team. Het gaat er niet om hoe je start, maar hoe je het afsluit.” In de finale bleken de Phantoms opnieuw een maatje te groot. De wedstrijd eindigde in een 5–1 nederlaag, waarmee we het minitournooi afsloten op een prachtige tweede plaats.
In de kleedkamer overheerste trots en euforie. Voor een team dat nog nooit eerder samen wedstrijden had gespeeld, is het behalen van een tweede plaats een geweldig resultaat en een veelbelovende start van het seizoen.

Het is officieel! De Dutch Flyers zijn ingeschreven voor het meest prestigieuze jeugdijshockeytoernooi van Europa, de “True Riga Hockey Cup”, in april 2023 in Letland.

De TRUE RIGA HOCKEY CUP is het grootste jeugdijshockeytoernooi in zijn soort in Europa en biedt al meer dan 15 jaar positieve ijshockey-ervaringen aan jonge spelers van over de hele wereld. Het toernooi vindt plaats in Riga, de hoofdstad van Letland en het hart van de Baltische staten.

Al jarenlang nemen competitieve teams uit heel Europa deel aan de jeugdtoernooien van Novotel Leuven, waaronder Finland, Frankrijk, Duitsland, Luxemburg, Nederland, Noorwegen, Zweden en het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Hoewel dit ons eerste toernooi was als team van de Dutch Flyers, greep iedereen in de selectie de kans met beide handen aan en gaf alles wat ze in zich hadden. We wonnen het toernooi met een totaal van 49 doelpunten – een fantastische teambuildingervaring en een geweldige kans om onze ware kwaliteiten als nieuw gevormd team te testen! Gefeliciteerd aan al onze Flyers en ga zo door!
